I believe catharsis is a necessary and central part of the theatrical experience. It’s the reason we still have the impulse to gather around the fire and tell each other stories. I believe it is the dramatist’s job to revive and reinterpret the mythologies that express our humanity, bind us together, and create that catharsis. I believe that the theatre should be theatrical and never hesitate to bare its teeth. Great plays don’t pull punches and are surrounded by a pending sense of danger.
